Empowering Women Through Fitness: A Conversation with Sarah

Roxie: All right, all right. Welcome to today’s podcast. I am so excited to have you here today on our Empowered Fitness success stories of some of my most amazing and incredible clients. You know, I am so blessed that I get to work with women from around the globe who have just stories of inspiration that are well beyond anything I can tell about myself.

I always say my stories are so boring, and the women that I work with are so much more interesting and inspiring. And today I want to bring you the story of my client, Sarah, who is a former rockstar. Now she has graduated from my coaching program and she’s doing a great job just maintaining the changes that she’s been able to make on her own.

And we’ve been able to actually lose about 30 pounds in six and a half months. And when you think about that, that is realistic. That’s doable. That’s like 5 pounds a month, just about over a pound a week. And what I love about her story is that it’s relatable. It’s attainable. I mean, imagine you right now with wherever you are in your fitness journey, you want to be able to change your body.

And sometimes it can seem like it’s just such a Herculean task, right? And you probably believe some of the fodder from the fitness industry that says that you can lose 10 pounds in a week and 100 pounds in two weeks, whatever crazy number they have to throw at you. And it’s so frustrating when you hit potatoes and you don’t see your body moving.

And I always like to emphasize how slow, slow and steady wins the race, and making lifestyle changes and taking a holistic approach is the most important thing. And what I’m really happy to share with you today about Sarah and her story is that she did exactly that. She’s a busy mom and wife, and she’s going to tell you her story.

I’m going to introduce you to her in a moment, but I really want you to take away just a relatable ability from today’s conversation about what may be possible for you. So let’s go ahead and jump into the conversation and bring Sarah right into it.

Getting to Know Sarah

Roxie: Hey Sarah, it’s so great to have you here today. And before we dive into your amazing journey, could you just share a little bit about yourself, like tell us where you’re from and what you do for a living? And if you had any kind of like background in sport or coaching or anything like that before we began our journey together?

Sarah: Absolutely. Roxie, I’m originally from a small town in the Midwest, and I’m currently working as a registered nurse. As for sports and working out, I’ve always been fairly active. In high school, I played volleyball and ran track, but like many people, life got busy after school and fitness took a back seat for a while. I am married to my college sweetheart, Todd and we’ve been married for 15 years.

I am the middle kid of five, third in line with two older brothers, one younger sister and one younger brother. So I was always kind of a tomboy who loved to get down and play in the mud. I was really on a roll with my fitness stuff for a few years. I’ve done some CrossFit, road races here and there, and I thought about bodybuilding at one point, but I love, love, love cookies and burgers too much, girl, let me be honest, okay?

But for me, if I can just stay active, keep it healthy, be able to keep up with my kids, hike every once in a while with my my husband who is huge into, you know, triathlons and stuff that I’m doing pretty damn good.

Roxie: Yeah, those cookies and donuts and burgers and everything else will absolutely be the death of any diet. So I understand, girl, that is one of the things that I struggle with too. I love burgers, it love steak. It’s my favorite. Anyway, so let’s go ahead. And now just take a step back for a moment. I want to switch gears and talk about challenges because one of the number one things that got you in front of me is because you were facing challenges when it came to your approach to diet and training and all that stuff.

Overcoming Challenges

Sarah: The biggest challenge for me was definitely finding the time and motivation to prioritize my health and fitness. For sure. As a busy mom and nurse, my schedule was packed and I often found myself reaching for quick, unhealthy food options out of convenience. I knew I needed to make a change, but I just didn’t know where to start. I was stuck in this cycle of yo-yo dieting and quick fixes that never seemed to stick. And it was really frustrating because I wanted to set a better example for my kids and I wanted to feel confident and comfortable in my own skin again.

Roxie: Absolutely. I can relate to that so much. I mean, I am not a mom, but as a business owner, I’m constantly on the go. And I know how hard it is to make healthy choices when you’re just always on the go and always busy and sometimes just too tired to think. So I get it. And so you hit me up, we talked on the phone, and I guess it all just kind of went from there. So tell us a little bit about what that journey was like.

Sarah: Yeah, so, after our initial call, I just felt this immediate connection and trust with you. I could tell that you genuinely cared about helping me reach my goals and that you had the knowledge and expertise to get me there. And I think what really sets you apart from other coaches is your holistic approach to fitness. You know, it’s not just about dieting or working out, it’s about taking care of your mental and emotional health too, and that really resonated with me.

You provided me with all the tools and support I needed to succeed, and you always made me feel like I was capable of achieving anything. And that was huge for me because I had never really believed in myself before. But you helped me see that I was capable of so much more than I ever thought possible.

Roxie: Wow, that’s amazing to hear. I mean, I’m so glad that you felt that connection because honestly, that’s what I strive for with all my clients. I want them to feel supported and empowered every step of the way. And it’s so true what you said about taking a holistic approach to fitness. I mean, it’s not just about the physical

aspect, it’s about nurturing your mind, body, and soul.

And I truly believe that when you take care of all those aspects, that’s when you see real lasting change. And so, you know, here you are now, six and a half months later, 30 pounds lighter, feeling amazing. I mean, how does it feel to look back on that journey and see how far you’ve come?

Reflecting on Progress

Sarah: Oh my gosh, it feels absolutely incredible. I mean, I never thought I would be able to accomplish what I have in such a short amount of time. And not only have I lost weight and gotten stronger physically, but I feel like a completely different person mentally and emotionally too. I have so much more confidence and self-love now, and I owe it all to you and your amazing coaching.

Roxie: Oh, stop it, girl. You’re making me blush over here. But seriously, I am so proud of you and everything you’ve accomplished. I mean, you are such an inspiration to so many women out there who may be struggling just like you were. And I know that your story is going to motivate them to take that first step towards their own transformation.
