Watch Now: Why Do I Keep Sabotaging My Own Weight Loss Efforts?
Stuck in a rut with self-sabotage, self-doubt, and getting in your own way with your fitness goals. Today, let’s discuss getting you unstuck.
Why Do I Keep Sabotaging My Own Weight Loss Efforts?
EVALUATE YOUR SELF
Let me ask you this question.
How long have you been on this fitness journey of yours?
How many times have you started and stopped, and done it all over again?
How many times have you had the best intentions in the world to achieve your goals to lose weight, get back into those old jeans, and start feeling great about yourself?
To step on that stage and start-up. But then for whatever reasons, you fall off, and you’re back at square one?
GOING DOWN THE SELF-SABOTAGE LANE
Accountability is one of the reasons women around the globe come to me to help them get on track with their goals.
Many of them spend time self-sabotaging what would be a successful plan or journey to their ultimate dream body.
I know how frustrating that can be. I know that you can relate and you’re looking for answers.
Well, I want to give you that.
I hope that you walk away with some tools to get over yourself and stay on the pathway to your success and to stop the self-sabotage.
HAVE A POSITIVE PERCEPTION OF YOURSELF
One of the main reasons why women are self-sabotaging is that they don’t feel like they deserve to be successful or are worthy enough of winning.
It’s crazy how we have these perceptions of ourselves.
We know when everybody else in the world will sometimes looking at us as being successful and having everything covered, but we feel like the impostors.
You don’t believe them when you wallow in that.
You feel like this never happens to you, and so somehow, you cause yourself to mess up.
GET RID OF THE NEGATIVITY
Ladies, you have to get over that thought of not deserving to win.
Start getting out of your way and put yourself in place to know that the things in your heart, your desires, and the things that you want can happen if you believe.
You have to believe that they are meant for you. The moment you do, you begin to see continued success.
Get to your goals and stay there for the long term.
NEVER GIVE UP ON YOUR FITNESS GOALS
The second thing that I see several women do when it comes to self-sabotage is that they throw the baby away with the bathwater when they mess up.
Have you ever been in a situation where you’re perfect on your diet and then for whatever reason you get off your diet?
Maybe you ate a couple of chips or a couple of cookies that were in the office pantry.
Then you figured you messed up and so you just keep eating!
You keep eating more and then this throws you off your plan. So you throw the baby out with the bathwater.
It’s like the case of what I call “the ‘f’ its”. F as in f***!
You have to stop the madness. Just because you fell off your plan doesn’t mean that you’re a failure.
Get back up and get back in the saddle.
Perfection does not exist, and the moment you can stop chasing perfection, it’s going to be the moment that you become free and you stay on plan for the long term.
At that moment, fitness truly becomes a lifestyle for you because you understand that stuff happens and there’s always an opportunity for you to get back on track.
CHANGE YOUR MINDSET
The third thing is that you feel like if it’s not absolutely perfect it shouldn’t be followed.
I see this all the time not only with diet but also in the training aspect with a lot of my clients.
They feel that if they miss a workout, they don’t get everything in or can’t get their cardio, then it’s not perfect, and they don’t feel like doing it anymore.
You cannot be that restrictive because life is not like that.
Things are going to come up, and you’re going to fall off track.
You’re going to have moments where you’re not able to do the things that you know you need to do. So, don’t freak out about it again.
In this instance, you want to take yourself back and live in the moment that you are. If you miss a workout, if you aren’t able to get the cardio in, that’s fine.
You can move it to a time you find convenient instead of taking time off to do the workout.
Do the cardio and then go in an extra 20 minutes on your next session but for God’s sake don’t give up on yourself.
Don’t throw it away just because it’s not perfect and that applies to other aspects of your life, not just fitness.
QUIT THE EXCUSES
The next thing I see happening with a lot of women is that they find some excuse not to put forth their best effort.
Changing your body is hard. It’s not easy getting to your goal. It takes work and sacrifice.
Oftentimes, I find out that so many women have these lofty goals on what they want to achieve.
However, they’re not willing to make the sacrifice it’s going to take to make that happen and to see those goals become a reality.
If you’re always saying ‘I can’t eat right because of this’ or ‘I can’t work out because of that’, You’re making excuses that you know are not the root of what is the problem.
There’s always a will and a way. So, you have to make a way for anything that’s important to you.
The next time you’re giving yourself an excuse as to why you can’t train, or why you can’t eat healthy, question yourself. You need to rip the band-aid off and make it happen.
HAVE A TOP NOTCH CONFIDENCE LEVEL
Finally, the last thing that I want to point out to you is that this all comes down to self-belief.
Do you believe in you?
it’s a painful thing to admit that you don’t have the confidence in yourself. It’s a painful thing to admit that your self-esteem is low and that you feel like you don’t deserve to be happy.
The people who see the most success in life are people who truly believe in themselves and believe that they deserve to have that success even in moments of self-doubt and fear.
We all go through points where we just don’t think that things can happen.
Having a system of support is super important to help you to get through that but if you don’t believe in you, who else is going to?
If you’re constantly finding yourself in that area of self-sabotage, you’re on a plan, and then whatever reasons, you allow yourself to get off, I want you to start to see to yourself.
Look yourself in the eyes and the mirror and say
‘I believe in you, we can do this. It’s hard right now and things are happening that are out of our control. We’re not gonna quit. We’re not going to give up. We will go all the way.”
I promise you that if you start talking to yourself in that way, this self-sabotage thing will no longer be an issue for you.
