5 Warning Signs of Hormonal Imbalance in Women Impacting Weight Loss
Today, I want to talk about a topic that is very important to all ladies out there that read our articles.
Articles on hormones tend to be a hit among readers, and I gather it’s because most of my readers are over the age of 30.
Yes, I have a huge demographic of women. Especially, between the ages of 35 and 45. As a woman who just turned 40 herself, I know what it’s like to have to deal with hormones and a changing body.
Basically, you have to try to recalibrate yourself and keep yourself in the best shape even as you age like fine wine.
I know I look good. I want to stay like this for a long time.
5 Warning Signs of Hormonal Imbalance in Women Impacting Weight Loss
Today, I want to discuss five things you should always look out for.
These are five warning signs that might indicate that there is a bit of hormonal imbalance in your body – and give you some clarity if you need to check it out further.
These signs are important when it comes to being able to tell whether or not there is some kind of hormonal imbalance in your body.
This is important if you are a woman over the age of 30.
You have to know and learn these facts. In addition, you need to know what to ask when you go to your doctor’s office. So, let’s talk about these warning signs.
First Warning Sign – You’re Not Seeing ANY Progress
One of the biggest indicators for several women that there’s something going on within their body is the fact that – no matter how hard they try, no matter what training program they’ve been on, and no matter what diet they follow, they don’t seem to lose weight.
You have a hard time losing weight. You’ve done the starvation diets. You train several times a week.
You’ve done cardio and your body is still not responding. What I always say is that you have to make sure your diet is properly set up.
So, if you have been dieting for a very long time and you’ve never had a diet break, now is the time to take that diet break.
Eat maintenance calories for a while and give your body a chance to reset before saying, “oh my god, my hormones aren’t off.”
For others, you might want to start monitoring what you eat every day, see how many calories you consume, and what it amounts to.
You might discover that you’re not eating a big enough caloric deficit. Therefore you’re not going to see any fat loss.
So, it’s very important for you to know and be certain that you are on the proper diet.
Once that’s in place and your body is still not responding no matter what you do, you have to watch out for the second set of warning signs.
Second Warning Sign – Your Body is SCREAMING at You Through Symptoms
The second sign that I want you to pay attention to is how you’re feeling.
- Are you constantly feeling cold?
- Is your hair always dry and brittle?
- Is your skin always dry and are you generally not feeling well?
Like you just know something feels off.
You might want to check your hormones out, particularly your thyroid hormone. Sometimes, this could be because your iron levels are off.
I know this because when I was severely anemic, I was always cold. My skin and hair were not healthy.
I was always craving ice and I was always tired as well. When I started to get all of it under control, my body felt amazing.
I am not anemic anymore and a lot of it had to do with my fibroid removal. If you’re having any of these symptoms, I want you to go to your doctor, tell him these symptoms and have them test you.
This could also be an indicator of low iron levels, but it can also signify that you might be hypothyroid, so get it checked out.
Third Warning Sign – Your Internal Battery is LOW
One exciting thing about the third symptom is that it has to do with your actual energy levels.
Are you always tired? For example, no matter how much sleep you get, no matter how much rest you get, you just always feel so drained.
Like you sometimes feel you want to fall asleep in the middle of the day. That’s a problem, and you know that it is not normal.
Another sign could be your low sex drive.
- Do you have a low sex drive?
- Do you have no energy or feel like you don’t want to be touched?
For women, your sexual urge could also be an indicator that your hormone levels are a bit off. A lot of times, this has to do with your reproductive hormones.
Fatigue can also cause issues – affecting your vitamin levels, cause deficiencies, increase cortisol levels, not getting enough sleep, and we also talked about hypothyroidism and also low iron levels anemia.
So, if you’re feeling any of this, go to your doctor. Pay attention to low energy and low sex drive because that could be an indicator that something is off.
Fourth Warning Sign – Are You “Flowing” Normally?
For those that have not entered menopause yet. Ask yourself these question:
Is your period regular?
This is important for women who are younger as well. I know that I have some women in their 20s reading this article. Of course, if you’re in your 30s you should still be getting your periods.
In a situation where you’re still getting your period and you’re on a diet program. And suddenly, you stop getting your periods, you need to get it checked out.
I discovered this when clients are on restrictive diets that are not in tune to get them to where they want to be in a healthy way.
The body listens and it stops the reproductive organs. This is something you don’t want to happen over a long period of time.
This is because of the negative effects that it has on fertility down the line.
Now for those of you over the age of 45, if your periods start becoming irregular or you stop getting your periods you may be entering menopause.
You should get checked by your doctor to see where your hormone levels are and for them to ascertain what’s going on.
I know this can be a scary thought for you, especially for women in the beginning of the menopausal phase.
You have to accept the fact that your body is changing in a way that you can’t control.
Entering this new phase of life isn’t going to be easy as you’ve never done it before.
Make sure you pay attention to your sexual hormones and see how you can keep them in balance as much as you can as you age.
Final Warning Sign – Feelings, Nothing More Than FEELINGS…
Lastly, the final warning sign is – how do you feel?
As women we have such a sense of intuition. We have a gut feeling about ourselves.
When you learn how to really listen to your body and pay attention to it, you know when you’re not feeling well.
Sometimes you can go to your doctor and say “hey I’m not feeling well.”
Surprisingly they say, “Oh you’re fine, your lab results are fine. Everything looks normal”.
But, if you look at your labs and you see your numbers are on the low side when they show you the reference ranges.
If you’re not satisfied with your results, you need to get a second opinion. Ask to speak with a specialist.
Go to an endocrinologist or gynecologist, if you’re working with sex hormones. You need to work with someone that is a specialist.
For some of you, this means working with a naturopathic doctor. It involves going to therapy clinics that do hormone replacement.
So, you might need to start looking into other options if you feel like your doctors are not listening to you and they’re telling you you’re fine when you know that you’re not.
Keep in mind that these warning signs are very important. If you’re having more than one of these warning signs, then you need to go to the doctor ASAP.
You’ll never be able to change your body the way that you want, like losing weight, gaining muscle, or doing the things that you really want if your hormones are out of balance.
So, ladies take responsibility. This is your body. This is the only body you have on this planet, so take care of it and learn how to read your lab results.
Learn what your numbers mean. This way, you can live healthier, look better, feel amazing and really do this fitness.
